Compare EV and plug-in hybrid chargers, including portable units and Type 2 wallboxes. Choose according to the charging power supported by the vehicle, the electrical installation, the socket type, cable length and charging location.
Which charging power should you choose?
- 3.5 to 3.7 kW: portable charging for compatible sockets and electrical installations.
- 7.4 kW: a single-phase option for faster charging at home or work.
- 11 kW: a common three-phase solution for vehicles that support this AC charging rate.
- 22 kW: suitable only when both the vehicle and installation support it.
The advertised charger power does not guarantee that the vehicle will always charge at that speed. The actual rate is limited by the charger, the car's onboard charger and the electrical installation.
Portable charger or wallbox
A portable charger is useful for carrying in the vehicle and using at compatible locations. A wallbox provides a fixed solution for regular charging. Some models include an app, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, current control or load management.
Before ordering, confirm the vehicle connector, single-phase or three-phase supply, available current and cable length. Fixed or high-power installations should be assessed by a qualified electrician.
Frequently asked questions
Is Type 2 compatible with my car?
Type 2 is common on European electric vehicles, but you must check the vehicle inlet and manufacturer specifications.
Does a 22 kW charger always charge faster?
No. If the vehicle accepts only 7.4 or 11 kW AC, that remains the maximum charging rate.
